Flipside

Early in 2010 Martin Carrillo was reconnected with mentor Greg Tate who he worked with on the 1995-1996 production of Coast City Confidential for the San Francisco Mime Troupe. Greg had moved to Hartford Connecticut to form Hartbeat Ensemble whose mission it would be to produce theatrical works that were born from the political issues they found there. The script for flipside was created by various poets and interviews Julia Rosenblatt had made with a retired Vice cop who advocates an end to the Drug war that he had fought all his life. The result of a collaboration of artists is Flipside which opened to critical acclaim and encore presentations continuing through 2012. Martin Carrillo provided the Sound Design and Original Score to the production which opened in the new Hollister building, in downtown Hartford… a commercial district that remains 40-50 percent vacant due to the economic downturn.
